Kiosk Administration

Our goal is to require ZERO administration on your part to keep your computer running smoothly. If you need changes made to your configuration or have a problem, please contact us by emailing kiosk_support at groovix.com or by calling 1-888-323-1742.

If you would like to perform administration tasks yourself, there is a Groovix Kiosk Administration Menu available by hitting the ctrl-alt-g key combination on any keyboard. You will be asked for your root password then presented with a list of possible tasks.

Here are some of the tasks available:

  • Printer Administration -- view status and administer printers -- NOTE: to install a printer permanently please contact us
  • HP Printer Administration -- If you have an HP printer you probably want to use this instead of the normal printer administration tool
  • Open a graphical file browser -- browse around the file system graphically as the root user
  • Open an xterm as the root user -- root shell access to accomplish anything
  • Connect to Groovix Tech Support -- you can share your screen with us for debugging purposes
  • Test Connections -- displays debugging information to make sure all keyboards, mice, monitors, and sound cards are working
  • System Monitor -- similar to ctrl-alt-del display in MS Windows. Use the View -> All Processes Option to see everything running on the machine.
  • Reset a Display -- if one display freezes, you can reset it using this tool. Note the display numbers start with :0.
  • Restart all Displays -- will re-initialize all displays forcefully and immediately. quicker than a reboot, but more prone to problems
  • Reboot the machine -- you could just hit the reset button on the machine instead. While running from a read-only DVD a proper shutdown sequence is not required
  • Shutdown the machine -- you could just hit the power button on the machine instead, While running from a read-only DVD a proper shutdown sequence is not required
